Conversation Skills

I have always had a fascination with the medical field. The idea that you would be trained to help someone or even save a life was such an amazing thing to be able to do. Those who felt uncomfortable in hospitals I did not. I loved going to the hospital. So a few weeks back I had to get my blood drawn (no worries we are all good). I decided that I would watch the needle this time and not be a wimp and close or divert my eyes. As the blood was taken and label I decided that I would hone in on my conversation skills and try to create conversation with the lab technician. I said, "Where you ever nervous when you take blood?" She replied, "No, I had a lot of practice." I thought to myself that even with all the practice in the world I would be a bit scared at least the first time. Then she continued, "when I was younger I had to give my brother shots because he had Leukemia. In the 80's they didn't have the medical technology/research they do now so he passed away." UGH!!! How horrible was this! I had to choose this poor girl just to practice my conversation creation skills and here she lost her brother. I of course said sorry for her loss but either way I felt horrible and from then on I need to be more careful in who I choose to create conversation with. How to tell not sure. I guess I will have to leave it up to them to start the conversations.

CT Scan

Yesterday I had the pleasure of my very first CT Scan. What an experience I must say. The day started out with drinking a "berry smoothie" which did not have any resemblance of anything berry and looked more like watered down Elmer's glue. The first bottle I had to drink at 6am within 30 mins. It went down okay no problem but the thought of drinking a 2nd bottle already was getting to me. Upon my arrival I was instructed to change into a very fashionable gown and to keep my shoes on. This day I had these really great suede and gold shoes so I was walking the red carpet on my way to the machine. I did have to say that this contraption was very fascinating and I found myself wondering how this machine was even invented and how it worked. Looks like I will be making a pit stop to either howstuffworks.com or wikipedia. Apparently while some of the photos are being taken it is necessary to hold your breath. At first for 5 sec and then 16 sec and lastly 10 sec. All my years of practicing holding my breath actually came in handy on this day. I also found that I get nervous trying to follow the technician's directions. Its like I am a 5 year old just learning to understand the words breath in and breath out. Needless to say everything took just about 20 min and I was out of there ready for a 4 hour nap when I got home. Now only if I can see what my insides will look like. Hopefully the doc will show me!

Flair of the day...

So I thought I'd share with everyone one of my favorite pieces of flair. I have many favorites but this one often comes to mind and cracks me up. It really is a great picker upper and on a Monday, that is what I need. Zombies really freak me out! They are the only freaky nightmares I have as a result of a movie(s). I found that out way too late after watching 28 days a few years back. However, one zombie movie I can watch is Resident Evil. Maybe because at least some people survive and Milla Jovovich survives every time not to mention she kicks some serious booty.

So how do you survive a zombie attack?

The way I would survive or try would be to run. And I I couldn't run fast enought, well that's when the flair comes in. I would trip you. Don't take it personal I would do that to anyone, well, to whoever is the closest. I do need some company for the future years. So first run and then hide. I think a good place to hide would possibly be underground. You have to make sure there is cement walls on all four sides and a good door...preferabley cement. I think cement all over...then no problems because zombies could dig through poorly made cement free walls. Not saying this place would be a permanent solution due to the lack of ventilation and limited resources of food. Another great hiding place could be a deserted island. I personally think this is the best option. Go to a small island and you can plant your own food, have lots of fresh air and you could live a pretty much fear-free life. Just as long as you find an island that doesn't have crazy zombies living there. You could try to survive on a boat if you can't find a habitable island. You would still be stuck with the limited food sources cause I don't think you can eat the fish since they could possibly be contaminated, however, make sure you have a large supply of soil and vegetable seeds and you should be set.

"We're Not In Kansas Anymore..."

"We're not in Kansas Anymore." You got that right. We are not in Kansas anymore, at least when it comes to my flair addiction! Facebook has this very fun and addictive application called Pieces of Flair (real creative huh?). Each day part of a ritual I go to the recently popular tab and check out what the day has in store for me. Some days are just ordinary others can become a educational experience. Once there was this flair that came up ever so often with just a date. I can't remember this date but for the story sake let's say 08/31/08. Each day a new piece of flair popped up with this crazy date. I couldn't figure out what the heck it stood for. I conducted many arduous searches for what this date could mean and NOTHING! Finally, can't remember how but it turned out to be the date of this vampire book coming out...oh yeah Twilight. Yeah so I was hip and learned that there was this craze for vampire books that everyone was reading. Another fun and awesome thing is that you can create your own flair and share it with the world. I have created many flair but there is one that i just found out is going off the charts!!!! The phrase I like to say is HOLY COW! I have 2717 users who have added or have been given my awesome piece of flair and am now ranked 26,210. That is an accomplishment in itself to even get a ranking! All my other flair pieces does not have a ranking at all!! So now the new addiction is making flair. Maybe I can rank 25,000 by Thanksgiving!!

Case of the Moooondays...

This is how I feel like today. I normally really love technology but on days like this I really want to throw the computer out the window. Why, you ask. This morning I've changed my password. I would say about an 1 -3 hours later the system did not except my new or my old password. Then I had to call the helpdesk. They helped but then I couldn't logon to other programs. Now I tried another and the same thing. So I called back and I keep getting referred to another person and then another department and then the back and forth continues. So I guess it is just another case of the Mooondays ;(

The Early Years

I am listening to my wonderful IPOD ( how anyone could live without it I have no idea, I know there are people who do). Guess what song plays?! Michael Bolton's How Am I Supposed to Live Without You. First few things came to mind, 1. I have this song? Wow, wonder where that came from and 2. This reminds me of when Zach and Kelly (Saved by the Bell) broke up during a dance..I want to say prom but I don't remember them dressed up.

Whatever happened to such wonderful shows like Saved by the Bell. Those were the days when coming home from school and watched shows like Saved by the Bell, Family Matters, Fresh Prince .....not to mention the music..MTV Jams Countdown!

Glow in the Dark Mountain Dew!

The other day I got an email with a video showing how to make an "Emergency glow stick" out of a bottle of Mountain Dew, Baking Soda and Peroxide. I for one thought that this was absolutely amazing and had to try it out. If it did work, what was in Mountain Dew to make such a chemical reaction? Why would anyone want to consume this beverage? I am usually very skeptical of these things and usually do some internet research. I was so enamored that I thought it had to be true! Good thing during the weekend I did not try this science experiment as planned, I kept forgetting to buy Mountain Dew. Monday I received another email this time with the Snopes.com link identifying this was a hoax!!! I was duped!! What a serious disappointment.

As a result of more searching about Mountain Dew and its disappointingly non-glow int he dark effects I did find another glow in the dark challenge. Is it possible to make glow in the dark ice with Tonic water? It says that the ingredient quinine has to be in the tonic water in order for it to work and the best way to see it is under a black light. I am skeptical but of course my curiosity is killing me and now I want to try but I have to buy a black light first.

SHROOMS!

Anyone who knows me knows that mushrooms are NOT my best friend. Let's face it, they are a fungi and when cooked are gross and mushy. BLEH! I apologize for those of you who do like mushrooms. Please do not become offended because I do have pleasant news to share. I now like mushrooms! What?! Yes I am admitting that they are actually good...but under one condition. The condition that they are not cooked. Raw mushrooms with some dressing or even hummus (thanks Bre!) is delish! Let's not get too crazy here, I've only tried button mushrooms and so far that is all I need to try. I still am a bit squeamish about 'shrooms but I've always thought they were so cute and amazing looking.
